Avira Rescue System -Avira Rescue System is a free emergency antivirus rescue medium. Avira Rescue System can scan and clean an infected operating system without having to start the infected system. The Avira Rescue System allows access to computers that cannot be booted. This makes it possible to scan for virus infections or to rescue data. Bootable ISO file for USB stick or DVD.
Once the rescue system has been started, the next step is to sign off on a license agreement – here there is also the option of changing the language of the Avira software (but not that of the live operating system). After that, various scanning options are available in addition to updating the virus definition files.
You can also find some useful tools in the “Tools” section. Not only can data on the affected PC be backed up with the Déjà Dup known from Ubuntu as “data backups”, it is also possible to operate remote maintenance via TeamViewer or access the Windows registry.
In addition to these tools, the live system includes other programs such as the Gnome Web browser and the GParted partitioning program for editing and checking partitions and file systems. However, these programs are not started from the Avira software, but with just a few clicks via the Gnome desktop.
The ISO file with the Avira Rescue System is updated regularly so that the latest virus definitions are always available. Due to the possibility of updating the virus definition files in the live system, the rescue medium does not have to be constantly renewed.
Note: Avira Rescue System does not support multi-boot systems. According to the manufacturer, it is also not possible to repair boot sectors, partitions and encrypted files. Linux systems should be able to be scanned and disinfected, but not repaired. Avira recommends backing up important data to an external data medium before use.
